Creative Non-fiction

This guide includes information pertaining to the writing process of creative nonfiction or literary nonfiction.

Locations

If possible, try to visit areas that you mention in your memoir. Seeing the area firsthand can refresh memories and help you create accurate, detailed descriptions.

If you cannot travel, try to find pictures of that location. Pictures are also helpful when describing structures and the moments that took place in them.

Letters and Journals

Find any personal letters or journals you may have kept over the years. Even if a letter or journal does not directly relate to your memoir topic, it could still draw forth memories that you have forgotten.

Don't forget to ask family and friends if they have any letters or journals you may use as well.
