This guide provides basic and advanced assistance in using Ebsco's Business Source Premier database.

Search Results

The search results provide quite a bit of information regarding the articles the database found for you. Below are some of the most important features available in the search results.

  1. "Search Results" displays the number of articles that the database found with your search criteria. Each page will display the first 50 of those results. After that, you will need to click "Page 2" at the bottom of the page to see the second page of results.
  2. "Limit To" are the limiters discussed in the Advanced Search Features section of this libguide. If you do not set limiters before you search, you can still do it after your search here. Options such as "Full Text", "Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals", "Publication Date", "Geography" and others are available.
  3. "Share" allows you to get a Permalink for the article record. A permalink provides a URL that does not "break". If you were to take the URL from the address bar of your browser and send it to someone or save it, it would break after a certain amount of time and no longer link to the page or article you saved it for. Using a permalink prevents this from happening.
  4. The red box encompasses the article information. Details are below.

  • Found in the red box of this photo is the title of the article or document. Clicking on it will open the entire record for you to view.
  • The yellow box provides a lot of information regarding this particular article. This box includes authors, source or journal title, publication date, additional publication information such as volume and issue numbers, and an abstract which is a short paragraph telling us what the article is about.
  • Inside the green box you see that there are subjects, the number of images in the article, number of times this article is cited in other articles, and if there is full text available. The subjects feature is important to note as if you'd like to find more articles like the one you are viewing, using two or three of the subjects most relevant to your research as search terms will help you locate better articles. Make sure that you select from the drop down menu in near the search boxes "SU Subject Terms" when you use those recommended subjects.
